Baby Boomer takes on Rippers

With a new team taking over Ryan Joyce's well-established 'weight- lifting-routine' web site, Geoff Morris, one of the four partners involved, issued a challenge to the Rippers and Shredders of the world of body building and weight lifting enthusiasts.

Geoff's main role over the last few years has been involved firstly in building up his own personal portfolio of properties, and of late is doing an excellent job in putting investors in touch with developers, for both individual properties and small to medium size developments, where several investors group together to finance these deals.

All of this generates a fair amount of income, but, as Geoff would be the first to admit - 'The task of selling properties can be time-consuming, stressful and sedentary at the same time, and can have a very negative effect on your body'.

So, for the last few years, Geoff has no longer been a regular visitor to his local gym, has had to do lots of long-haul air travel, and with the number of 'business lunches', especially in the States, and so the inevitable has occurred.

Where he used to be a fit and lean 13 stone (182 lbs for our US cousins), with a low body fat content, he is now around 15 stone (210 lbs), and quite a pronounced 'Freemason's Gut'.

In terms of your regular iron pushers, his '1 rep max' bench press is a pathetic 121 lbs, as opposed to the standard 'Hulks' rate of around 200 lbs.

Now, a few years ago, before Geoff got heavily into investment property (you know - he had the usual day job so evenings and weekends were his own), Geoff's weight had ballooned up to just under 16 stone (224 lb), and in a dramatic attempt to get back into some quite expensive suits, he hit the Atkins Diet with a vengeance, and also started 4 or 5 visits a week to his local gym. We all know the controversy that surrounded the Atkins diet, but this carb-free diet, coupled with quite extensive cardio vascular and weight exercises, very rapidly got his weight down to a respectable 14 stone. (196 lb), and for some time after, Geoff stayed on a pseudo-Atkins diet.

When that stopped, and carbs began to creep back into his diet, along with a lifestyle change by getting involved in investment property sales, well - guess what - on went the weight again!

But now that he is involved in the management of the weight-lifting-routine web site, and he is the one that writes most of the articles, he could hardly carry on slopping about with a See Food diet ( see food and eat it!) and a gut appearing when he went swimming. So, as his web site is based around Ryan Joyce's '12 Week Diary of a Weight Trainer' he has decided that he will take on this 12 week regime of exercise, diet , and supplements, and see what happens to a Baby Boomer who takes on body sculpting in his 60th year!

Now, he is fully aware that he will not be able to compete with the young bucks that also visit his site, but he does know this. By putting his mind to it, and with a bit of goal setting, before his 60th birthday he intends to reduce his body fat content by half, reduce his weight by some 30 lbs, and in the process, get his gut reduced, biceps built, and legs strengthened. He also intends to increase his '1 rep max' bench press from the pathetic 121 lbs to around 150lb. That's about a 30% increase in 12 weeks.

To make this more interesting, Geoff would like to throw out a challenge to any other similar-minded Baby Boomers, and as long as they sign up to his site, and keep notes of their progress, if they manage to achieve more body fat reduction, and more than a 30% increase in their single '1 rep max' bench press in 12 weeks, then Geoff will put up a $1,000 prize challenge to all comers over 55.

As Geoff fully appreciates, 'Your Body is Your Temple', and it really needs your top priority, and it will last you a lifetime.
